Experience

For this we initiated consultations amongst the civil society, National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB), and other government departments on devolution in collaboration with HBF in 2000; held a local government election campaign and built capacity of potential women councilors from 7 districts of Punjab in collaboration with AusAID in 2001; developed capacity of women councilors from Lahore in collaboration with CIDA in 2001; held a media campaign for political empowerment of women (Radio, TV and Print Media) and trained regional journalists from 10 districts in collaboration with DFID in 2000-01; published and disseminated a monthly local government newsletter (first newsletter on local government) in collaboration with CNGG in 2001; built capacity of CNGG members on local government in 2001; published and disseminated a fortnightly governance newsletter (a newsletter on political education, devolution & decentralization) in English, Urdu and Sindhi in collaboration with SDEPP UNDP in 2002-03; held an advocacy campaign for the political rights of citizens in 13 districts of NWFP and Punjab in collaboration with SDEPP UNDP in 2002; held an advocacy campaign for women's political empowerment in 10 districts in collaboration with GEP DFID in 2002-03; documented experiences of women councilors elected on peasant and labor seats in collaboration with HBF in 2002; monitored violence against women and built capacity of parliamentarians, councilors, NGOs and stakeholders on the same; institutionalizied women and child protection centers at the local government level in collaboration with UNICEF Punjab from 2000-03; held an electronic media campaign on Parliaments and their roles in collaboration with IFES, PTV and Radio Pakistan in 2003-04; provision of non-formal basic education to poor children in collaboration with PMLC from 1996-todate; strengthening national and provincial legislative governance in Pakistan with World-Vision - USAID. Under the project we built capacity of civil society organizations to facilitate effective citizen access to the representatives, legislative and oversight process of national and provincial legislators through enhancement of advocacy and oversight capabilities in Punjab. Our strength lies in working closely with communities, citizens and stakeholders. The above mentioned projects are part of our struggle to promote citizen's partnership with elected representatives, government officials, civic groups, NGOs/CBOs, media and think tanks. We have a good track record of fulfilling our commitments and making partnerships with the public and private sectors. We have demonstrated our expertise in the field of electronic media by producing jingles, radio magazine shows, talk shows, and drama serial on decentralization/devolution etc. We have also published several information based publications on governance, decentralization/devolution and political education.
